About this event
Virtual Workshop Description
Accounting in a private practice is so much more than getting ready for taxes. Show me a thriving private practice, and undoubtedly this business owner knows their numbers. Licensed professionals in helping professions help others, but who is helping the professionals? There are so many rules to follow as a licensed professional but very little business support. Many therapists say one reason they are in this profession is to stay clear of math and money. Successful business owners cannot avoid numbers. If you are a licensed professional and have any size practice of your own (including a side gig), there are business issues you must address. This workshop will give you an opportunity to ask accounting questions in your practice.
- Learn what business structure is best for your practice
- Learn to avoid the most common accounting errors
- Know what common tax deductions are in a practice
- Learn the best saving strategies
- Learn how to track and organize your income and spending
- Develop strategies to improve financial habits and reduce stress around money

Edie Gardner, LCSW, CPA: Edie’s bucket list dream has always included having her own psychotherapy practice, but she took quite an unusual pathway to get here. While working as a public auditor and tax accountant for a (then) Big 8 accounting firm, a partner told Edie she was making the biggest mistake of her life by going back to school to work in a helping profession. However, Edie saw how many helping professionals were losing management positions by not knowing how important numbers are in helping others.
Edie started her own accounting practice in 2012 and then realized the dream in 2017 by adding mental health counseling services to her practice. Now, Edie has a mental health practice in California focused on helping the helpers, hyper-responsible caregivers who typically overserve at their own expense. In 2022, Edie began presenting “Ask An Accountant” trainings for private practitioners to assist in the business management of their practices. Edie now offers individual and group coaching services for business owners. Licensed professionals have numerous rules to follow with very little support. Edie’s practice is dedicated to supporting licensed professionals have the business of their dreams.
