About this event
Virtual Workshop Description
For decades, clinical models have treated the male brain as the default, leaving women with outdated assumptions about their own stress response, decision-making, and emotional processing. It’s time to dispel the myths and flip the switch.
Drawing from cutting-edge research in neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience detailed in Think Like a Girl, this 3-hour CE workshop dispels long-standing myths regarding women’s cognitive function, stress response, and decision-making. Attendees will explore how sex-specific differences such as unique working memory patterns, neural connectivity under stress, and hormonal fluctuations impact women's mental health and executive functioning. Participants will learn practical, evidence-based tools and cognitive strategies to help female clients leverage their innate neurological strengths across career, relationship, and lifestyle domains.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate Sex-Specific Neurobiology: Identify key neurological, hormonal, and functional differences in female brain development and cognitive processing compared to standard male-normed models.
- Deconstruct Cognitive Myths: Evaluate empirical research debunking common clinical stereotypes surrounding women’s decision-making, emotional regulation, and stress resilience.
- Analyze Stress & Hormonal Impacts: Explain how acute and chronic stress and associated neurochemical shifts differentially affect working memory, burnout risk, and executive function in women.
- Apply Science-Based Interventions: Integrate tailored cognitive and memory strategies to help female clients optimize working memory, mitigate decision fatigue, and enhance professional and personal outcomes.

Tracy Packiam Alloway, Ph.D., is a Professor of Psychology at the University of North Florida and a clinical psychologist. She holds ten years of postdoctoral experience as a Principal Investigator on government-funded research grants evaluating standardized cognitive and learning assessments. Dr. Alloway is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, as well as multiple books including Think Like a Girl (published by Simon & Schuster).
Her research centers on working memory, spatial intelligence, resilience, and cognitive performance. She is the developer of widely used clinical and educational assessment tools published through Pearson, including the Automated Working Memory Assessment (AWMA), translated into nearly 20 languages, and the Working Memory Rating Scale (WMRS).
Beyond her academic research and clinical practice, Dr. Alloway is an international TEDx speaker and corporate consultant who translates cognitive science for industry leaders, educational institutions, and media outlets. Her research has been featured in outlets such as Good Morning America, The Today Show, Forbes, Bloomberg, The Washington Post, and the BBC.
Current Work & Research Initiatives
- Cognitive Application Development: Founder and lead developer of MemorIQ, an evidence-based mobile application designed to enhance working memory, study strategies, and cognitive performance across university and adult populations.
- STEM & Architectural Spatial Cognition: Co-principal investigator on a multi-institution project (collaborating with researchers from the University of Cambridge, the Royal Institute of British Architects, and The Foundation Academy) designing and evaluating a 10-week architectural STEM curriculum to analyze spatial intelligence and working memory in middle school students.
